M.C. Escher comes to the Playstation (demo)

  • April 25, 2008

After all the hype, I finally had the chance to actually play a demo of echochrome, the M.C. Escher-ish game that's coming out for the Playstation 3 and PSP. The first Google result, for a YouTube video, gives an excellent presentation of what the game is like. However, at least in the demo, the camera controls seem sluggish. Perhaps the Sixaxis motion control would make this easier - I haven't tried it yet.

Review: Kong Cat ZoomGroom

  • April 20, 2008

This is a review for the Kong Cat ZoomGroom, which is a very nice brush. A similar product is available for dogs. I picked up one of these for my cat, who doesn't much care to be held, have her nails cut, etcetera. However, she loves this 'brush.' Not only goes this magically work loose the hair, but it seems to give a good massage, and does a fairly good job of keeping the loose hair on the brush.

HP Pavilion a6360t clean-up

  • March 4, 2008

With a new HP Pavilion a6360t, a number of things needed to be done to clean the machine up, from it's default factory setup. Uninstall Norton Internet Security (there's an uninstall option through the program's Start menu). After a restart, I still needed to go back and delete the empty directory from the Start menu. Uninstall My HP Games through the Control Panel. Each one needed to be selected individually.

Movie review: Jeff Dunham: Arguing With Myself (2005)

  • February 17, 2008

The first one is great (the cranky old man). The others have their good spots, but I wouldn't feel too bad having to shut it off after he left the stage. If it would have continued at this level through the end, it would truly have been great! See what else I've been watching through Netflix.

Movie review: The NeverEnding Story (1984)

  • February 17, 2008

So maybe you remember watching this when you were little, or think you must have. And maybe you watched the Robot Chicken episode covering this movie. And maybe you're really tired when you decide to watch this movie. You're in for comedy gold. Overall, a pretty good movie, with a good message that won't be lost. But, older and wiser, there's just too many loop-holes, and that Robot Chicken spoof will overpower everything else.

Review: Dynex - 6' 3.5mm Stereo Extension Cable - White

  • February 10, 2008

I have a 2007 VW Rabbit, which, in the glove compartment, has an auxillary input jack. Since I also have an iPod Classic, I really wanted to be able to listen to my music in my car, using my car's speakers. On January 5, I picked up this cable. It's a cable, so there's not a whole lot that they can mess up. From what I can tell, the quality coming out of my speakers is the same as when I use by earbuds or another set of good headphones.

Review: DLO Jam Jacket with Cord Management for the 80 GB iPod classic (Black)

  • February 10, 2008
  • James Skemp
On January 5th, I purchased a DLO Jam Jacket with Cord Management for the 80 GB iPod classic. As the title suggests, this product is designed specifically for the 80 GB iPod Classic, and therefore may not work as expected for other iPods. The quick review: Overall, this case offers a good deal of protection, and the cord management feature, if you use the standard iPod buds, is rather helpful.

The 'Four P.T. Anderson Films' weekend review

  • December 21, 2007
  • James Skemp
Thanks to Rob Lumley, I'll be watching four different P.T. Anderson films over the extended holiday weekend. Brief comments on the first film watched, below. Hard Eight (1996) Interesting. In more than a couple of places, I was reminded of Jackie Brown. Lots of dialogue, but even more quiet, giving an emphasis to not only what is said, but what is not. It's slow, which may turn some away, but the story of Sydney is interesting all the same .

Movie review: Stranger than Fiction (2006)

  • December 18, 2007
  • James Skemp
I watched the Blu-ray version of this movie. Other editions may play differently, although since I don't discuss the audio or video components of this film, my review will stand as-is. This is, by far, one of the most wonderful films I've seen in a very long time. While I haven't been much of a Will Ferrell fan in the past, this movie has truly opened my eyes to just how great of an actor he really is.

Playstation 3 and the Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Boardband Router

  • November 24, 2007

While I initially hooked up my Playstation 3 a week ago, when I was posting to the official PS forums today, my second post, I was doing so to recommend a version of the router I'm using. Since both items are pretty popular now, it makes sense to write up a quick guide on them, I suppose. My equipment First off, there's my setup. I've had pretty experiences with Linksys, but poor experiences with Netgear, so Linksys I am.
