Using Xml4Ssp 1.3 Rev 1

  • February 24, 2008

Xml4Ssp is a Windows XML generator for SlideShowPro. While the program still needs some work, it's pretty usable as it is. Since there's no real documentation, I'll be covering how I ended up using it to generate my latest gallery. Starting folder structure I began with the following folder structure: casio_images  Pearl FullsizeImage Images Thumb The only folder that contained content was the FullsizeImage directory, in which I dumped my JPG originals.

Can A Good Man Do No Evil? Is Zatoichi A Good Man?

  • February 23, 2008

Pre-emptive clarifications First, by a 'good man' we specifically mean here one who is truly good. By 'good' we mean one who, by their actions, attempts to decrease the amount of evil. By 'evil' we mean those actions which are disruptive towards a social, unified, ordered, society. For example, murder, theft and pillaging. This by no means exhausts all potential issues with the below, but if one assumes the common definitions, it should make sense.

Quick and dirty conversions to FLV (Flash Video)

I purchased a Casio EX-Z1200 a bit ago, which I've been playing around with. Overall, I've been very happy with it, however, it outputs movies to the MOV format. While this seemed great for Apple, it wasn't the best for me. After testing out QuickTime Pro (7. something) and Ulead Movie Wizard 3.2 SE VCD (which came with the camera), I was about to settle for less than I hoped for.

HP media drives - pocket versus personal

  • February 19, 2008
  • James Skemp
Hewlett-Packard (HP) offers a couple of different media drives for sale. These include the HP Personal Media Drives, and HP Pocket Media Drives. Unfortunately, based solely on their site, there's no clear indication of which drive offers exactly what. In order to determine which is which, I ended up consulting both the HP site, and Amazon.com. I did take a look at BestBuy.com, but it seems they don't sell these drives.

Movie review: Jeff Dunham: Arguing With Myself (2005)

The first one is great (the cranky old man). The others have their good spots, but I wouldn't feel too bad having to shut it off after he left the stage. If it would have continued at this level through the end, it would truly have been great! See what else I've been watching through Netflix.

Movie review: The NeverEnding Story (1984)

  • February 17, 2008

So maybe you remember watching this when you were little, or think you must have. And maybe you watched the Robot Chicken episode covering this movie. And maybe you're really tired when you decide to watch this movie. You're in for comedy gold. Overall, a pretty good movie, with a good message that won't be lost. But, older and wiser, there's just too many loop-holes, and that Robot Chicken spoof will overpower everything else.

Determining memory, and more, with Ubuntu

Unfortunately, Crucial's system scanner tool doesn't work on Linux. While unfortunate, it turns out that there's an easy way to determine how much memory you've currently got, and how much you can increase that to, using a simple comand. sudo lshw That's all there is to it. This gives not only an overview of how much you've got, and how much you can have, but also what banks are in use with what, and other system-related 'stuff.

Cisco Cache Cleaner and IE 7 on Windows XP Home

  • February 17, 2008

If you have the pleasure of running Cisco's Cache Cleaner on your home computer, you may run into an issue with your settings being set to something other than you'd prefer. While it may appear that Cache Cleaner clears out your data, it in fact only appears to turn auto-complete off. In Internet Explorer 7, go to Tools > Internet Options > Content > AutoComplete > Settings and turn the settings you want back on.

Review: Dynex - 6' 3.5mm Stereo Extension Cable - White

  • February 10, 2008

I have a 2007 VW Rabbit, which, in the glove compartment, has an auxillary input jack. Since I also have an iPod Classic, I really wanted to be able to listen to my music in my car, using my car's speakers. On January 5, I picked up this cable. It's a cable, so there's not a whole lot that they can mess up. From what I can tell, the quality coming out of my speakers is the same as when I use by earbuds or another set of good headphones.

Review: DLO Jam Jacket with Cord Management for the 80 GB iPod classic (Black)

  • February 10, 2008
  • James Skemp
On January 5th, I purchased a DLO Jam Jacket with Cord Management for the 80 GB iPod classic. As the title suggests, this product is designed specifically for the 80 GB iPod Classic, and therefore may not work as expected for other iPods. The quick review: Overall, this case offers a good deal of protection, and the cord management feature, if you use the standard iPod buds, is rather helpful.
