Disabling Messenger auto sign-in on the Xbox 360

Shortly after logging into Xbox Live the Xbox 360 will attempt to log into Windows Messenger, by default. While I tried to find how to disable this, all of the articles I found were irrelevant, since they were written during the 'blades' interface. Here's how I stumbled on it. Press the Xbox button on your controller. Go to the Settings tab. Select Profile. Select Auto Sign-In. Select Disabled under Windows Messenger. For some reason I had to do this a couple of times for it to stick.

Installing Windows 7 beta on Virtual PC 2007

I couldn't find the other articles, so just in case I lose another one, here's an overview of installing Windows 7 beta on a virtual machine. Oddly, I didn't have Virtual PC 2007 SP1, which seems to be a common issue. Installing the Windows 7 Beta with Virtual PC 2007 SP1

XML-based CD library: Draft layout

  • January 9, 2009

Following close on the heels of my XML-based book library draft (and release), below is a draft layout for keeping track of my CDs. Here's what I currently track: Artist CD Name Date bought Place bought Bought price Number of songs Time (which I don't fill in very often) Misc info/notes Following the iTunes standard, each CD has a main artist. Songs, which could be listed (and which I listed back when I had this in Access, I did so), could have their own artists.

The Wastelands are big ...

... so save yourself some time and checkout this very handy map of the Fallout 3 world. Of course, the map isn't required, by any means, but it was actually a really big help on getting to 100% understanding of the in-game 'compass.'  The rest of the wiki is also packed with information, even though, unlike a true wiki, members don't seem to be able to edit items. (I noticed a minor style mistake that I could fix if I could edit an entry, but since I can't edit it, and can't find contact information .

XML-based book library: Draft layout

01/03/2009 @ 10:39 CT: The current version of the XML Schema I came up with is available for public use at http://media.jamesrskemp.com/xsd/MyBooks.xsd Currently I have a SQL database (converted from an Access database) of all of the books that I own, as well as when I read them, how much I paid, etcetera. Since I'm moving a good deal of information into XML, I figured I'd attempt to move this into XML as well.

Why I Don't Care For Ethics: 9 people on a boat

  • January 1, 2009

Since college I have disliked ethics. However, I couldn't explain why. On December 10, 2008, at approximately 10:04 PM, I turned on the lamp next to my bed and wrote the following: 9 people on a boat that can only hold 8. What do you do? Even then I knew the answer. Morally, I think the answer is you (me) jump off the boat. Maybe I was reading too much Schopenhauer, but this seems like the only answer you can give.

On my funeral

While in college I heard of the Greeks who, when death was near, would throw a party. All the friends of the dying would come together to drink and merry. The dying would slit their wrists and party along with the others, his life spilling out from him all the while. While I'm sure that in today's world this would never happen, my hope is that when I die those who know me will celebrate, instead of mourn.

Shadow Hearts: From the New World leveling information

A leveling 'guide' for Shadow Hearts: From the New World is now available; Shadow Hearts: From the New World leveling. Not only should it have been written up and posted a while ago, it gave me a good chance to use XSD (XML Schema Definition). I tried creating one for my tracking my vehicles' gas usage, but failed. Having worked through the issues on this one, I think I now know what I did wrong.

Playstation Home Beta: First impressions

Eh. I think it looks really good, but I'm not sure a 3d world is what really drives me. That's about all I've got to say at the moment. Definitely looks good, but ... if you don't want to meet people, what's the point? Side-note: Couldn't find the themed environments.
