M.C. Escher comes to the Playstation (demo)

After all the hype, I finally had the chance to actually play a demo of echochrome, the M.C. Escher-ish game that's coming out for the Playstation 3 and PSP. The first Google result, for a YouTube video, gives an excellent presentation of what the game is like. However, at least in the demo, the camera controls seem sluggish. Perhaps the Sixaxis motion control would make this easier - I haven't tried it yet.

An answer to a question about Jing Project

  • April 13, 2008

I hadn't heard of Jing Project until I was asked. Here's my response: I've not seen this before, but TechSmith is pretty well known, as far as the Morae/Camtasia (?) products, which basically allow you to record videos on your computer for demo or testing purposes. It sounds like they don't even know what they want to do with Jing, but it sorta sounds like they'd want it to compete against other photo-sharing sites, like Flickr.

Playstation 3 and the HP Pocket Media Drive

When I purchased my new HP a6360t, I also added in a HP Pocket Media Drive Bay, which allows me to directly connect in a HP Pocket Media Drive. In turn I'm easily able to add 160GB or 250GB of additional drive space, whenever I need it, to store various media (documents, music, photos, videos, etcetera). One thing I was curious about was whether the drive I had, a HP 160GB Pocket Media Drive, could be directly connected to my Playstation 3.

HP w2207h audio

Tip: If using the HDMI cable to connect your HP w2207h to a computer (such as the HP Pavilion a6360t), you do not need to connect the monitor to the computer's audio card. Duh. If you switch this, you may also need to close out of programs, such as Internet Explorer 7, in order for them to use the correct audio device.

Quick and dirty conversions to FLV (Flash Video)

I purchased a Casio EX-Z1200 a bit ago, which I've been playing around with. Overall, I've been very happy with it, however, it outputs movies to the MOV format. While this seemed great for Apple, it wasn't the best for me. After testing out QuickTime Pro (7. something) and Ulead Movie Wizard 3.2 SE VCD (which came with the camera), I was about to settle for less than I hoped for.

HP media drives - pocket versus personal

  • February 19, 2008

Hewlett-Packard (HP) offers a couple of different media drives for sale. These include the HP Personal Media Drives, and HP Pocket Media Drives. Unfortunately, based solely on their site, there's no clear indication of which drive offers exactly what. In order to determine which is which, I ended up consulting both the HP site, and Amazon.com. I did take a look at BestBuy.com, but it seems they don't sell these drives.

The future really is Blu ...

Catching up on the news, it seems Warner will be switching over to Blu-ray, exclusively, after May 2008. What surprises me is that they're just now saying that this is ending the format wars. The fact that Warner was supporting both, while Fox, Disney, Lion's Gate, MGM, and Sony were only Blu-ray (compared with Paramount and Universal going HD DVD, after Paramount was effectively paid-off) suggested, to me, that the 'war' was already over.

Why I decided it was time to purchase an iPod

Years ago I said I would never buy one. Yesterday, after lunch with my mom and sister, I stopped into Best Buy and picked up a black, 80GB, iPod classic. Of course, I was hit for various plans I could join - can't blame the guy, I guess - but left with just the iPod and Stranger than Fiction (Blu-ray), since I figured it was worth the $30 to make it my second Blu-ray disc.

Playstation 3 and the Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Boardband Router

While I initially hooked up my Playstation 3 a week ago, when I was posting to the official PS forums today, my second post, I was doing so to recommend a version of the router I'm using. Since both items are pretty popular now, it makes sense to write up a quick guide on them, I suppose. My equipment First off, there's my setup. I've had pretty experiences with Linksys, but poor experiences with Netgear, so Linksys I am.

10 random reasons why I bought a Playstation 3

Reason #1 Mr. ROFL. Reason #2 I already own a Playstation and Playstation 2. When I can get a machine that will play those games, why wouldn't I keep with it? After all, the Playstation has never failed me. Reason #3 Free online play. With wi-fi support built-in. Reason #4 Heavenly Sword. This was the first real Playstation 3 game I played. With the trailers, I was expecting a Devil May Cry kind of game, but wow.
