The WordPress calendar is a table

There's a number of problems with WordPress, as far as accessibility goes. However, the easiest one to fix is the problem with the calendar, which displays in the default theme, as well as many custom ones (I'm sure). It lacks a summary tag.

Google SketchUp 6 released (?)

  • January 9, 2007
  • James Skemp
I thought Google SketchUp had been released for public consumption before, but ... Google SketchUp 6 is available in both a free, as well as a pay Pro version, and it's quite impressive. Having played with other tools, like Rhino3D, this is significantly easier, but seemingly on-par, at least for rectangular objects. Go to http://sketchup.google.com/ for more information. While you're there, take a look at the number of bonus packs available, all of which are seemingly free.

Final Fantasy XII - Loot listing

  • January 7, 2007

There's a handful of guides out there that list the available loot in Final Fantasy XII (for the Playstation 2). However, none of the ones that I've seen collect the information in a form that's both printer friendly, and in a format that makes checking things off simple. To that effect, I've created a five page PDF that allows you to easily check of the number of loot you've sold, and what you've left to find.

2007: A Year of Possibilities, Part 1

  • December 31, 2006
  • James Skemp

2007 is on it's way in the door, so it's time to be thinking about where I'd like to be at year's end. This time I'll be looking at what I'd like to fill out my apartment with, since a number of essentials, and non-, are missing.

Algorithms or human judgement? Give me logic

  • December 23, 2006
  • James Skemp
Earlier today, it was noted in the news that Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales is working with Amazon on a search engine.  This new engine supposedly will use human judgement to weight results.  Naturally, sources are saying that this engine's competition is Google.  While Web 2.0 has some good things going for it, this is one of the silliest ideas I've heard of in a long time. First, DMOZ anyone?  Want your site to show up high in the DMOZ directory?

Terragen™ 2 Technology Preview to be released December 15

  • December 15, 2006
  • James Skemp
Development on Planetside Software's Terragen™ has been extremely slow in the last couple of years. While new versions and news were coming out at a semi-steady pace years ago, visible development dried up. All that changes on December 15 (possibly) with the release of the Terragen 2 Technology Preview. It's almost 7:30 CST, which means December 16 in a number of parts of the world, and there's no sign of the download yet.

Review of 'Ajax for Web Application Developers' by Kris Hadlock (2006)

The short stick: New to Ajax? You may want to look elsewhere ... I've been working on the Web for a handful+ of years, but save for a brief stunt back in the late 90s, I haven't had much use for JavaScript (with the exception of a few one/two-liners). As such, I came to this book as a new-comer to Ajax. I also like to learn by way of example, instead of explanation, so code examples are a big plus, if not a requirement.

WordPress: Fake user registrations

  • December 11, 2006
  • James Skemp
For the past couple days I've noticed a rash of fake user account's being created.  I wonder if this isn't meant to be some new way to possibly exploit WordPress. I've kept the original emails I received from WordPress, and am very tempted to delete the accounts.  However, WordPress only seems to allow the deletion of accounts.  What if I want to 'ban' an account/username/email? I suppose I'll have to go find a plugin, or build one myself.

Try Netflix free

  • December 6, 2006
  • James Skemp
As stated in another post, Netflix shipping, for Madison WI, I decided to give Netflix a try.  I'm still with them, and I've watched a number of movies, that I may otherwise have had to purchase or rent elsewhere. For a limited time, you too can try Netflix for free.  Go to www.netflix.com and enter the code of Friend63.  This offer expires on June 30, 2006, but I do hope that means June 2007 .
