HTML5 / LocalStorage Web application manager tool

As previously mentioned I've been spending a good amount of time looking at HTML5/local storage in my free time. For testing purposes, I ended up putting a number of items within my video games offline application, which is fine, but results in some extraneous information on the page. To clean this up, as well as to allow for additional functionality, I've gone ahead and created a Web application manager for my media.

Well done, Amazon (re: Amazon Cloud)

Well done, Amazon. They've been saying for quite a while that music was heading towards the 'cloud,' and while it seemed for a while that everyone was betting on Apple doing it first, you've trumped them, with what seems like a very consumer-friendly service. 5 GB for everyone? Check. Free upgrade to 20 GB if you buy an Amazon MP3 album? Check. Amazon MP3s purchased and stored to the cloud (seemingly at purchase) don't count against your limit?

Interesting feature with parsing XML with jQuery on Safari

I've been playing around with HTML5 quite a bit recently, in particular with offline Web applications. My second experiment (my first is on pause) was with making my video games available, so that I can access the listing when I'm out shopping at used game stores. It's still in progress, but you can see my offline listing of video games now. My main intention is to make this available on my iPod Touch, so I was a bit dismayed when I found that the listing didn't display the title of the game.

Review: Smashing CSS

The following is a review of Smashing CSS, written by Eric A. Meyer. Mixed signals lead to a mixed review I think this may technically be the first Eric Meyer book I've ever read. I've read a number of his articles online, in various forums, but just haven't gone out of my way to read one of his books. So I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting, but I do know it was more then I believe I got.

Storing watched movies and Netflix shipping/receiving in XML format

  • March 6, 2011

Ever since I started my Netflix subscription in September 2006 I've been keeping track of what movies I receive and when. Unfortunately, as the years have gone by I've found it more and more difficult to easily look through the listings to see when I last watched a movie. Additionally, I've no longer been keeping track of what ratings I give movies, and why. The initial goal was really to track when Netflix shipped and received movies, as well as when I mailed and received.

On the case of weird image results for 'Dan Conderman'

  • February 28, 2011

If you've done an image search for Dan Conderman lately you may have found an interesting search result for your Dan Conderman image search (on Google). I'm not exactly sure why Dan Conderman is showing this image, but since Dan Conderman likes Lady Gaga, and Dan Conderman has been known to ski in the snow ... Are the script kiddies playing a trick on Dan Conderman? Will we see sites 'hacked' with footer links to Dan Conderman's newest image search result?

Video review: Philips DLP2277 Attachable Battery Pack and Charging Base for iPhone and iPod (White)

The following is a review of the Philips DLP2277 Attachable Battery Pack and Charging Base for iPhone and iPod. When I ordered this item I was expecting only what the box suggested; a battery pack that could be connected to the iPod, which would charge the phone, and in turn be charged by the base station. Instead what I got was a box full of goodies. First you have the battery itself, which while of a fairly large size, seems to fit perfectly with the odd case I have for my iPod Touch.

Supporting HTML5 manifest files on IIS 7 using Web.config

  • February 18, 2011

Having recently picked up an iPod Touch, to replace my Classic, I've become very interested in HTML5's ability to navigate content offline. In my environment I decided to create a separate directory for my manifest files. I'm also running IIS 7, on Server 2008 R2, so .manifest files are already defined for WPF. So that that isn't an issue, I created a Web.config file in the manifest directory with the below contents.

Excellent news - the BlogML project is not dead.

  • February 11, 2011

While it seemed to be near death, if not dead, at least as far as new releases, the BlogML project is not dead, and has been undergoing a number of needed changes since the end of January. My StackOverflow question "Is the BlogML project dead, and what are some alternatives?" was answered yesterday by the project originator (one of the great things about StackOverflow, and the entire network of sites).
