My first job offer email

It's definitely a form email, with some major spacing issue. However, the email itself is pretty concise and to the point. ColdFusion development, in California. I like the first line, "It is time to come out and join the rest of the people escaping the cold." but they clearly don't know me. If anything, I'll move further north :D Thankfully, I'm pretty happy where I am now, although it looks like I'll be pulling in a deal of extra hours this week.

Template changed again (October 2007)

  • October 6, 2007

Once again, I've changed the template for the site. This time I'm using Royal Flowers. The name comes from the purple flowers (taken outside of Madison Wisconsin's capitol building (see the Galleries for more shots) and that purple usually signifies royalty, or richness. I'm not sure that the left-side navigation has been done the best it could be, but ... overall I'm pretty happy with it.

Netflix shipping, for Madison WI - Year 2

  • September 29, 2007
  • James Skemp
I had previously written on how Netflix shipped and received DVDs, for Madison WI. This article continues that one, by discussing Year 2 with Netflix (first year began September 26, 2006). Plan changes On December 2, 2007, I decided to upgrade to the two at-a-time (unlimited) plan. Since my plan begins on the 10th of each month, that means I had to pay an extra $1.26 to upgrade now, instead of for the next month (I figure this way they'll send a movie out tomorrow morning).

My worst fear has come true

  • September 24, 2007
  • James Skemp
Yes, that's right, my worst fear has come true. Not only did I get a girl pregnant, she also had my baby and is spelling my name wrong. Or, when I signed up for something online, they must have thought that I have a child. Or, Mr. James Skamp had a child. I guess my child is about 12 months old now - I don't know if it's walking yet though - but Huggies seems to think it's using diapers (hence the coupons).

New header image added to the template (9/1/07)

  • September 1, 2007
  • James Skemp
On July 7, of this year, I went to the farmer's market off of the Capitol square, in Madison. I picked up some sunflowers and a bunch of flowers. I ended up taking a number of pictures before the flowers eventually died, and the picture I used for the new header image is one of those taken. The file size for the image is rather large, in my opinion, but with today's speeds, it shouldn't be an issue.

What I can say about New York (City)

  • August 19, 2007
  • James Skemp
I've never been to New York City, at least, not that I can recall. However, media has, for various reasons, touched upon the city in a number of formats, in a number of ways, for a number of years. Without having ever been to New York City, I can say the following about it. Stay out of New York City. Common wisdom is right, New Yorkers are less human than people in other cities.

Future post/article ideas

The following are some of the ideas I have for articles that I'll need to actually flesh out, or sit down and write. This page will be updated as articles are eventually written (and removed from this page) or as more ideas are added. ColdFusion MX 8 installation (added 8/16/07) 'Marriage and children' (added 8/16/07) The economic, political, and social reasons, and whether they still hold ground today Husserl and intentionality/phenomenology

Pepsi Ball released in San Francisco; injures 20, kills 1

  • August 13, 2007
  • James Skemp
At approximately 2:30 Sunday afternoon a Pepsi Ball was spotted around 10 Market St in San Francisco. The Ball, which eventually killed Noah Ridge, 27, continued on it's rampage in the area, striking multiple vehicles. By the time the rolling rampage was over, $250,000 in property damages, 20 injured, and a nation lies in shock. At the time of this article, Pepsi Co. refused to return our calls. Our assesement? Pepsi, fitting its marketing, once again show contempt for those outside of its shareholders.

Initial thoughts on The Hospice

  • July 28, 2007
  • James Skemp
I had occasion today to read The Hospice, by Robert Aickman (1914-1980). This story was in the collection Masterpieces of Terror and the Supernatural (selected by Marvin Kaye). Unfortunately, I had to go to Google to try to make sense of the story, since Kaye himself suggests that the meaning is rather obscure. A simple G search turned up a result at some site, which itself is rather odd .
