The future really is Blu ...

Catching up on the news, it seems Warner will be switching over to Blu-ray, exclusively, after May 2008. What surprises me is that they're just now saying that this is ending the format wars. The fact that Warner was supporting both, while Fox, Disney, Lion's Gate, MGM, and Sony were only Blu-ray (compared with Paramount and Universal going HD DVD, after Paramount was effectively paid-off) suggested, to me, that the 'war' was already over.

Why I decided it was time to purchase an iPod

Years ago I said I would never buy one. Yesterday, after lunch with my mom and sister, I stopped into Best Buy and picked up a black, 80GB, iPod classic. Of course, I was hit for various plans I could join - can't blame the guy, I guess - but left with just the iPod and Stranger than Fiction (Blu-ray), since I figured it was worth the $30 to make it my second Blu-ray disc.

XML creation: Part 8

  • January 1, 2008

In this guide, I'll be creating an XML file to store the Playstation games I own, and ultimately make the XML file 'pretty' for Web browsers. I've done this in the past, with my vehicle gas XML document. In part eight I'll be expanding upon our XSLT to group games based upon the system they belong to, as well as modify our XSLT to use xsl:appy-templates. This time ... I won't be going into a recap of what I've done in all seven of the previous parts.

I've done this in the past, with my vehicle gas XML document. In part seven I'll be expanding upon our XSLT to remove elements that are empty, and change the sort order, for our existing XML file. Last time ... Up until now we've decided what we want to store, and how we want to store it, in an XML file.

Netscape to finally be put out of its misery

  • December 29, 2007

Unfortunately, the 'Internet portal' will continue to be around, but the browser is finally being put to rest. That's the news out of AOL, on the official blog yesterday. Personally, I'm really happy to hear this, since Netscape as a browser really isn't going anywhere. Currently, it just displays content using IE or Firefox/Mozilla. Happy news indeed, and not at all unexpected. Hopefully this means that freed talent and time will be invested wisely.

In part one, I went over what kind of data would be stored in our XML document.
