I just upgraded WordPress from 2.0 to 2.0.1.  If you see anything unusual, let me know.  I've also updated from Subscribe2 2.2 to 2.2.1, so if there's anything weird there either, let me know.

January 2006 browser statistics

  • February 1, 2006

In January, looking at the number of pages that were viewed, around 63% of visitors used Internet Explorer to access a page on the StrivingLife.net Network, while 26% used Firefox.  After that, about 3.5% used Safari, followed by 2.9% using Mozilla and 2.2% using Opera.  Netscape?  1.4%. Of course, the Firefox numbers give it away pretty well - we cater to a more technologically literate group than the Internet as a whole.

Old articles will be coming to this area

  • January 10, 2006

Over the coming months, you'll notice that the size of this area will increase. I'll be adding a number of older articles to this area (articles from http://strivinglife.net/articles/) in the interest of creating both a standard, as well as making articles easier to find. Since they'll be post-dated (new articles will not, of course), they won't be crowding out any current posts.

  • January 1, 2006
  • James Skemp

So, I guess I lied about the upgrade to WordPress 2.0, as I just finished doing it. Doesn't look like one of the old plug-ins is going to work yet, but since I don't use it ...

PHP and MySQL work

  • December 23, 2005
  • James Skemp
I'm looking for ideas on what I can write in PHP and MySQL.  Thus far, I've written: 1) A comments system, that still gets hit by spam (but don't they all?). 2) An admin interface to upload documents, then create a record in a database for display elsewhere (along with categories and related articles/documents). I just don't know - what do I *need* for functionality?  Maybe I'll look further into creating a RSS reader - I just don't know .

Tools of the Trade

  • December 2, 2005

Thanks to my sister still being in school, I've been able to pick up a number of very powerful commercial tools for fairly cheap. I'm big on free programs - Open Source being the key word these days - but sometimes the professional's tools are just more than all that.

FramingBusiness.net comments

The last time I posted, I discussed a great article on PHP and MySQL. This time, over a week later, I'm discussing how I've used this information on the network.<!–more–><!–adsense–> On November 9, Gavin's <a href="http://framingbusiness.net/">FramingBusiness.net</a> went live with a new feature: functionality to collect, store, and display comments. Any article posted since June of 2005 will have this functionality, and many old ones, that have been converted over to PHP and the new layout, will also have this functionality.
